The two main aims of ‘LID’ are as follows:

- To provide a range of opportunities for local practitioners to engage with their peers at international level in order to raise the value, importance and benefits of shared international practice as a highly effective means of learning among local communities and in doing so promote and increase international output at local level

​

and

​

- To promote the development of leadership capacity among young leaders, youth workers and trainers through interaction with other practitioners from across Europe and beyond in order to enhance their capacity for making an active, sustained, valuable and lasting contribution to their community at local level in order to enhance Cultural Diversity, Interculturalism and Good Relations
