PIN BOARDS are owned and managed by The Inside Out Programme

The Inside Out Programme was established in Claudy as a targeted youth initiative, funded by the Local Strategy Partnership for Derry City Council area (DLSP), in 2004, through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.  It secured charitable status in November 2007.  

 

Inside Out provides and has provided a range of services, training, accredited courses, projects & programmes that aim to minimise feelings of alienation and marginalisation among young people primarily in the Claudy area.  Activities have included information meetings, social visits, outdoor activities, text service, newsletter and a Youth Information Point. 

 

Previous courses and programmes  have included Us & Them, Life Skills, Citizenship, Advance IT, Digital Story Telling,  Creative Media, ‘Away from Violence’, ‘Network Earth: Global Citizen for the 21st Century’, MAP (Midnight Activity Programme), The ‘Why?’ Project, PoP Youth Assembly, International Youth Exchanges, Intergenerational work and currently co-ordination of The LID (Leadership through Intercultural Dialogue) Programme.

 

Inside Out's Vision is one of An active and healthy rural youth population in Northern Ireland and its mission is To create, facilitate and promote opportunities for young people to work in partnership with adults to advance and realise the aspirations of young people living in rural areas.  It endeavours to do this ensuring that Young People living in the broader Claudy area are connected,  visible and have the means to make a positive and lasting contribution to their local communities in order to influence and shape provision available to them.

 

Inside Out works to build consensus among young people as to the key issues for development; develop a positive working relationship between young people and adults; facilitate and promote interaction between young people from different backgrounds; identify learning opportunities for young people; work with local groups so as to build formal and informal partnerships to address and respond to identified need; implement projects and programmes to address identified need; raise the profile of young people in the public sphere so as to improve image and perception among the adult population and provide skills development for young people as to enhance career prospects.

 

Co-ordinator

The Inside Out Programme is co-ordinated on a voluntary basis by Fergal Barr (Dip HE, Adv Dip, BA, MSc) who has more than 26 years experience in Youth Work.  He has worked for a vast array of organisations across both statutory and voluntary sectors including Info Plus, BELB, WELB, NIACRO, St. Columb's Park House, Eglinton Youth Club, Off the Streets Community Youth Initiative, NI Youth Forum and The Inside Out Programme.  Fergal is also a freelance trainer and has worked freelance for a number of organisations at local, regional, national and international level.

 

His involvement in youth work has seen him work in diverse areas such as Youth Information, Education Welfare, Volunteering, Peace & Reconciliation, Conflict Management & Resolution, Community Relations, Mentoring, Street Work, Research, Participation, Rural Work and Humour.
